The California State Assembly was presented with a bill pertaining to universal opt-out preference signals, and the California Privacy Protection Agency declared its support for it. Assembly Bill 3048 would mandate that preference signals be provided by browsers and devices so that users can exercise their choices regarding consent. Although Californians have the right to privacy, most "are unable to avail themselves... because the tools they use to navigate online do not communicate their privacy preferences," according to CPPA Executive Director Ashkan Soltani.
